Artist Statement:
The photo above was taken after the U.S dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima to win the war against Japan. To most Americans this photo seems to illustrate an amazing part of our country’s history. It celebrates that we persevered through many obstacles to win the war. Soldiers did risk their lives to fight Japan, one of the three evil powers in world war two. What the picture doesn’t show is the 220,000 people who lost their lives, destruction to the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the radioactive material released into the air of Japan. This photo represents a mass murder the size of more than 73 nine-elevens put together, so why are celebrating? We sometimes get so focused on winning wars, that we use unethical methods to achieve positive results. Although we won the war, the impact of the atomic bomb was so detrimental to the people of Japan and the environment that it almost seemed as if it was not worth it.

This was really eye opening I saw this picture in my research and had no idea of it's origin. Good job proving your thesis!
