War is a brutal painting. In most armies there is a mixture of people with a mixture of talents. Some can sing, some can dance, and others can play the piano. There is something that every soldier is when they do their jobs, they’re artists. They paint pictures with their actions, experiences, and sometimes literally in the case of our photo. Napalm is almost too beautiful to believe. It explodes, spreads, and mushrooms into the air like a smaller nuclear explosion. The pilot that we see is staring at it the way we are staring at it. The beauty is irresistible and devastating to all the vegetation, people, and buildings caught in its fiery fury. These soldiers who drop the napalm don’t see the devastation that is happening beneath the flames they just see the beauty. There are the two parts to the operations that the military does for better or for worse. There could be beauty in the explosion and fires but if the operation is successful there is always someone on the receiving side. It's a brutal art and the soldiers are artists whether they like it or not. Their weapons are their bushes and the landscape, enemies, and countries are the canvas. What is left is their masterpieces it could be good or bad, dead or alive, victory or defeat.
