Soldiers are some of the toughest human beings, but even so, war has stressful and scary moments that are sometimes even too difficult for them to handle. So, to avoid being hurt, soldiers have to constantly keep a brave face on. Alter egos are made and people become cursing, dirty human beings in war all to avoid being hurt. They think, perhaps if they become this tough personality, then they will be more likely to survive in the harsh climate of war. They will adapt to their environment and become filthy, just like the war itself.
They are not just deceiving others, but themselves. They come into war an innocent human, and they come out all tattered and torn like an old rag. During the war, the vulgar language is used as a coping mechanism, only to realize that when they come back home, they cannot return back to that innocent state. The idea was to use this alter ego solely in war and return back to the old personality when back home. Only it is not that easy, for the soldier that was needed during the war developed a hard layer of protection over his unfamiliar face and once it is picked off, there is a raw layer of his former self.
That is what deceitfulness does to soldiers. They trick themselves into believing that they are capable of being beastly for the war and then that personality takes over them completely. Bibliography: "Face Is Art: 30 Surreal Faces To Inspire You." Hongkiatcom. N.p., n.d. Web. 22 Mar. 2016.
I love how your thesis statement is so simple yet so powerful and how much it relates to war. Your description of "Alter Egos" is really great. It makes sense that soldiers go into war innocent but come out a whole different person. They go to war and try to act tough so thy will be able to survive. Your picture really shows a visual of that. The face the man is putting on seems to be the face of a "killer". The face also seems to be darker than the rest of his skin, showing no emotion. In TTTC, many of the soldiers had to put on a different face for when a tragedy happened. Such as a friend dying, them being shot, etc. They had to fit in with war and you explained that very well. You did an awesome job!
