The soldier is holding his hands up in surrender to the beautiful lady. Little does he know that she is the enemy. The half of the lady that the soldier sees is fresh, young, and beautiful, while the unseen side is rotting and melting. Her red dress represents the blood of the soldiers. The dark yellow paint in the background of the picture represents the dust and the confusion of war. How it’s hard to tell what is going on around you. It’s hard to tell who the enemy is and an ally is. The soldier represents the conscientious objectors. They hear one side of the story but are never told the other. How is war deceitful? It is deceitful because, the enemy’s objective is to go undetected so they can eliminate their enemy, US soldiers. The enemy uses nature as it’s sword and shield. The Indians used the trees when the pilgrims first came to America to protect themselves from the guns of the Englishmen. Why is war deceitful? War is deceitful because, if we, or the enemy have no strategies going into the war then all it will be is just chaos. Just a bunch of guys shooting each other with no objective. It would be a senseless war. What are the consequences of war being deceitful? Take terrorists for example. Not all terrorists are Islamic or Muslim. Some are even “American”. They use deceit to go undetected to ensure that their plan does not fail. You may pass one on the train and not even know it. That is because they use deceit to mask themselves. They blend in with an everyday citizen. The safety of your families while you are away at war is jeopardized. War is deceitful because it tells you one story but you experience another. It tells you that war is not as gory as it is depicted in the movies. It tells you that you and your friends will be okay. It tells you that you will go back to your families, safe and sound. It shows you beauty but doesn’t rear its ugly head. It shows you the beauty and peace of a village that is secretly filled with bombs and booby traps. It shows you the beauty of nature where your enemy hides, waiting to strike. It makes empty promises with its fingers crossed behind its back. It promises that you will get to see your family again. It promises that your friends/comrades will be safe. That they will not be put in harms way. War is deceitful because, it uses everything good in your life against you. It used Ted Lavender’s love of animals against him. It made one of his fellow comrades blow up the only good thing for him in Vietnam.
