All three of these photos show a few of many sacrifices that are made during war.
Artist Statement
In order for soldiers to fight in war, they must make extreme sacrifices: physically and mentally. Soldiers give up time with their families’, their well-being, and sometimes even their lives. They sacrifice their time so that U.S citizens can live in a peaceful environment. We hear so many stories of soldiers coming home and being unable to transition back to civilization due to PTSD, because their minds are scarred from what they experienced in war. When I hear stories of Vietnam war veterans having garbage thrown on them after service, I cringe. Sometimes citizens do not agree with the purposes of certain wars, but the American people have no right to show disrespect to the soldiers that have served in them, because soldiers are not the people making decisions on whether or not we go to war. The soldiers have the responsibility to protect the life of the man next to them. Can you imagine the sheer guilt they would feel if something happened to their fellow soldiers. The families of soldiers make sacrifices as well. When soldiers leave for war, they leave their children. Sometimes for a month. Sometimes for a year. Sometimes forever. As American citizens we owe it to war veterans to respect them, as well as their families. So next time you debate on making senseless comments about war veterans or even committing as terrible of an action of throwing garbage on a veteran, think of the sacrifices they as well as their families make.
