War is fighting terrorism with terrorism

Meaningless terrorism happens everyday around the world, but it is also used as defense against itself. This may be confusing because it is basically ‘fighting fire with fire’. This means that in the process of trying to eliminate or defeat something, you use that object or method in the process. Ultimately, it creates a bigger problem than before. Most people wonder why this method would ever be used, especially on a global scale. Unfortunately, this method of fighting the enemy has been used since the beginning of history. In this photo, we see an animated version of Barack Obama. His presence represents the presence of the entire United States. The artist used him as a symbol for America because he is supposed to represent everything that our country stands to be. He seems to have a very weak stance, which could represent weakness in America. Although we have the strongest military in the world, this is ironic because he is standing like he is afraid. Along with his shaky stance, he seems to be poorly armed. His shoes are tied together, his gun is misshapen, and his helmet is not buckled. These disadvantages can symbolize the fact that he is ‘being set up to fail’. If a soldier is given armor in poor condition, the chances of them surviving against a stronger opponent is slim. The overall photo represents America using terrorism to fight terrorism because it would backfire completely. Using the same method to try to eliminate that method would only make matters worse, simply because it would contradict the idea of using that method in the first place. As I mentioned before, using terrorism to fight terrorism is setting someone up to fail. Killing a group of people because they killed a different group of people is probably one of the most unproductive ways you can solve a problem. This photo portrays the fact that using terrorism against itself is not only ineffective, but also a torturous and inhumane way to exert dominance over others.

  1. This is a really original take on our unit! It incorporates many of the things currently going on in our news today. Terrorism does seem to be out first thing in our headlines and as everyday citizens it effects us more than any other form of war. The Paris attacks targeted people just like us and the most recent terrorist attacks in airports have many of us realizing that a week later and it could have been a friend or family member of ours injured or even killed. How to fight this terrorism is a very controversial issue and I think you did a great job of connecting all of the knowledge we have gained in this unit directly to terrorism and our nations current situation. War is not just in our past, it is effecting our country right now and you did a great job of reminding me of that. That is also a very good visual it is very symbolic of your stance.
